Hi! I’m Emerlie Ann Miller – The Sugar Artist behind the cakes!
I am not your typical cake decorator. You know, the one who will tell you stories of baking cookies with grandma and helping mom make the family desserts… I have never enjoyed being in the kitchen; unless it is to feed myself. In late 2010, when my boyfriend left for a two year LDS mission shortly after I graduated high school, I found myself lonely and bored. It was then that I started teaching myself the art of cake decorating as both a hobby and comfort food.
In 2014 I learned more about the professional art of cake design working for One Sweet Slice, a custom cake and cupcake shop that previously won Cupcake Wars. After they chose to close their business at the start of 2015, I decided to pursue this career on my own, and shortly afterwards took off to Toronto, Ontario to attend cake design college for the summer. Having returned from Bonnie Gordon College of Confectionary Arts to earn a professional diploma in the field, no one will be able to deny my expertise and credential, and as always, they will be begging for more. Things escalated. With many eyes of anticipation for the next cake to be posted, I suddenly gained a massive following, thus propelling me into a passionate chase to my ultimate dream; feed the world with my beautiful cakes.
Since returning from school, I have set out to create cakes that are truly unique. After operating as Sugar Rush Custom Cake, I am launching my own YouTube baking channel as My Sugar Rush to teach the art of cakes and pastries to my hungry followers. This launch will shortly be accompanied by recipes I use in my kitchen to create such beautiful desserts. I have also launched my own line of sweet merchandise, started teaching in person cake workshops, and competed as a Cake Artist on Food Network’s Santa’s Baking Blizzard (2019), as a Sugar Artist and Pastry Chef on Holiday Wars (2020), and as Team Lead and Food Network Champion on The Big Bake (2021).
Besides building my creative business and designing beautiful cakes, my other interests include going on spontaneous adventures, outdoor photography, graphic design, binging on Netflix, and cosplaying my favorite fandoms. Most of my conversations consist of 80% movie quotes and I can crush anyone at Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon. I’m a connoisseur of unique soda drinks with an unsettling addiction to Diet Dr. Pepper. I also manage to create recipes for my business, despite having over 20 food allergies by relying on my family for critique. I currently reside in Salt Lake City, Utah with my kilt-wearing, Lego-obsessed, scruffy-faced husband.
